3D Direction, Design & Animation

9 to 5

9 to 5 is a playful animation that captures office life through everyday desk items. Using objects like pens, pencils, paper clips, pins, post-it notes, staplers, keyboards, mice, scissors, and lamps, the film mirrors the routines, small triumphs, and quiet stresses of a typical 9-to-5 job. From managing tasks and staying organised to holding it together under pressure, each item takes on a life of its own, expressing humor, tension, and resilience in an office environment.

With the music selected, the editing phase became an essential part of shaping the project’s tone and narrative flow. It helped solidify key themes and guided the overall direction of the piece.

The process felt organic and experimental, allowing the animation to evolve naturally. From there, I refined transitions, pacing, and details to enhance cohesion and bring the final sequence together.

Process

9 to 5 originated from a series of experimental explorations in Cinema 4D, using deformers, dynamics, and traditional keyframe animation to test different motion behaviors and interactions.

The project focused on capturing the mood and personality of everyday desk items found in an office setting. I began by assembling quick previs shots to explore composition, timing, and rhythm, evaluating what worked visually and conceptually.
This iterative process led to a collection of animated sequences that formed the foundation of a rough edit.
